Weird Mutant Cows Manufactured for Beef Production

Mutant cowAs the video below shows, these weird mutant cows look more like a mythical creature than the animals we know to exist on farms and in the wild. But sadly it is very, very real.



These bulls awith bulging muscles are known as Belgian blue and farmers have been selectively breeding them for years by isolating a mutated gene that promotes such an unnatural stature.
The reason they look so bulky is because of a naturally occurring mutation called “double muscling,” which occurs when the animals lack a certain protein that regulates muscle growth.
While double muscling is natural, the way the mutation has been perpetuated is not. The meat industry selectively breeds animals who exhibit this mutation to produce bigger animals and, therefore, more meat.
